Volunteer Spotlight: Making a Difference

At ReadConnect, we're incredibly lucky to have a team of dedicated volunteers passionate about promoting literacy and fostering a love for books in children.

Our Founding Committee's love for reading and desire to positively impact the community led to the creation of ReadConnect. During COVID-19, our journey began with a visit to a local school to read to a group of children who were non-native English speakers. We carefully selected three books that were engaging, diverse, and relatable to the children's experiences. Through animated storytelling and expressive reading, we captivated the children's attention and sparked their imagination.

We were thrilled by the smiles and enthusiasm of the children we interacted with. The kids eagerly gathered around, hanging on to every word. We engaged with them, asking questions about the story and encouraging them to share their thoughts and opinions. This not only strengthened their comprehension skills but also fostered a sense of connection and belonging.

At the end of our three-day volunteer work, the bond we had formed with the children made it hard to say goodbye. They asked us to autograph the books we gave them, and they wrote us many thank-you cards and notes that we still treasure to this day.

This experience made us realize how precious it is to be able to contribute and make a difference in children's lives. Through volunteering, we not only help others but also learn and grow from our interactions with the children. The quote "giving is more rewarding than receiving" rings so true.

Since then, our Founding Committee has actively sought opportunities to make a difference. We are dedicated to promoting literacy and positive thinking beyond our volunteer work. We share book recommendations on social media, spreading the word about the power of reading and a positive mindset for young children. Our posts highlight the benefits of reading, promote positivity, and encourage children to think critically and embrace a growth mindset.
